Antonín Dvořák in Photographs: Exhibition

You can visit the exhibition Antonín Dvořák in Photographs at the Antonín Dvořák Museum in Prague through the end of April next year. It focuses on portraits of the composer and his family, taken at various stages of his life in different photographic studios.

Alongside works by amateur photographers, you’ll also see images from prominent Prague studios of the time — such as those of Jan Nepomuk Langhans, Jan Mulač and Hynek Fiedler — as well as studios abroad. Dvořák was photographed by the Negretti & Zambra studio at Crystal Palace in London, Percival M. F. Hadley’s Vienna atelier, Robert W. Thrupp’s studio in Birmingham and New York’s Wm. Spiesse, among others.

In addition to photographs, the exhibition features personal items belonging to the composer, kindly loaned by his great-grandson, Petr Dvořák. These include Dvořák’s straw hat, seen in an informal photograph taken by his son Otakar in the garden of the composer’s home in Křečovice — with Dvořák pictured alongside his wife Anna and grandson Josef Suk.

The museum is open daily (except Mondays) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We warmly invite you to visit.
