Young Czech pianist Jan Schulmeister is celebrating one of the greatest milestones of his career. He took the Newcomer Award at the BBC Music Magazine Awards. These awards recognise the best classical music recordings each year.
The jury appreciated his debut recording of works by Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. His award-winning record was released on Supraphon.
Virtuoso Jan Schulmeister is currently a student at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno. Fans of the Dvořák Prague Festival will appreciate that Jan is part of the sixth generation of a musical family, related to František Černý, who was a classmate of Antonín Dvořák.
Jan first drew attention in 2023, when he took third place in the Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition in Dallas.
Schulmeister also has several Concertino Praga prizes and wins to his credit. He has a Karel Komárek Family Foundation scholarship.
We look forward to Jan’s future achievements.
