Dvořák Prague Family Day: Saturday 6 September at the Rudolfinum

We warmly invite you to join us for Dvořák Prague’s Family Day, taking place this year on Saturday 6 September from 2 p.m. both in front of and inside the Rudolfinum. We’re delighted to bring this popular event back to the venue so closely tied to the festival since its founding.

The afternoon will begin at 2 p.m. on the steps outside the Rudolfinum with a performance of The Nutcracker and the Sugar Plum Fairy by Docela velké divadlo (Quite a Great Theatre) from Litvínov. You can look forward to an adventurous story inspired by Tchaikovsky’s fairy tale, as the Nutcracker and little Adélka journey through the Candy Kingdom to foil the evil spells of the Mouse King.

After the performance, we’ll move inside for music and film workshops designed for children. How is film sound created? How does an opera aria find its way into a movie? And what does an animated opera look like? Under the guidance of director and artist Lucie Vostárková and sound engineer Zuzana Švancarová, creators of the animated version of Dvořák’s Rusalka, children will get hands-on experience with animation, film music, and sound effects.

To take part in the sound effects (foley) workshop, please make an online reservation on our website (registration is not required). The recommended age for workshops is 5 to 12 years.

As a special guest, we’re pleased to welcome Večerníček, who is celebrating his 60th birthday this year. Since his unforgettable theme music was composed by Ladislav Simon, father of our festival director, it felt only natural to invite Večerníček to join us for the occasion.

Admission to the entire Family Day is free. We look forward to seeing you — children and adults alike — on Saturday 6 September from 2 pm at the Rudolfinum.
