Tomáš Netopil will conduct a concert performance of the opera The Jacobin

In this episode of our music series, we present one of the most illustrious contemporary Czech conductors. Tomáš Netopil, who has a string of successes from prestigious international venues to his name, is also dedicated to supporting young talented musicians. At the 2026 Dvořák Prague Festival, he will lead the Prague Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Dvořák’s opera The Jacobin.‍

Tomáš Netopil’s career is studded with many remarkable artistic achievements. After a long tenure in Essen, Germany, he took on the post of chief conductor and artistic director of the Prague Symphony Orchestra in September 2025.‍

‍He continues to reinforce his excellent standing abroad as well. His most prominent international achievements include a breathtaking debut at the famous Chicago Lyric Opera, where he led the orchestra in Strauss’ opera Salome.‍

Supporting young talented musicians

‍Aside from his conducting career, Tomáš Netopil is dedicated to the systematic education of emerging musicians. He is the founder and artistic director of the International Summer Music Academy Kroměříž, which combines masterclasses for young musicians with a music festival.‍

‍His Supraphon recording of Shostakovich & Prokofiev violin concertos with star violinist Daniel Matejča, accompanied by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, is an example of his intensive collaboration with young artists.‍
