The brass sextet ENSEMBLE CLASSIQUE was founded in 1986 in the cultural centre of Bad Wörishofen, Germany. Since its grand debut at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in 1989, concert tours have led the ensemble to the world’s most distinguished musical centres. During concerts at renowned music festivals, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Salzburg Festival, as well as at numerous open-air, castle and church concerts, television broadcasts and other musical settings, the ensemble has impressed its audiences with its brilliant stylistic sense and distinctive musical presence.
The unique homogeneous sound, the technical brilliance, as well as the superb musical sensibility have made ENSEMBLE CLASSIQUE one of today’s internationally renowned, well-known and most popular brass ensembles. Exclusive productions with SONY CLASSICAL and UNIVERSAL CLASSICS emphasize the ensemble’s outstanding position in the musical world.
The professionalism of each individual musician, together with their virtuosic solo qualities, culminates in a unique, unmistakable and homogeneous sound, based on arrangements by solo trombonist Peter Seitz and compositions by the ensemble’s former artistic director, Winfried Roch.
As a musical ambassador for Rotary International, Winfried Roch composed Fanfare Rotary International, dedicated to the Rotarian World President, Paulo V. C. Costa, in support of his endeavours to protect the threatened rainforests. The first performance of this fanfare took place in Mexico City in 1991.
True to Leonard Bernstein’s quote, “Let’s make music as friends,” the ensemble radiates an irresistible attraction on stage. Audiences love musicians most who do not play for themselves, but for the people who listen to their music. This is exactly the reason for the special magic that emerges when the brass sextet ENSEMBLE CLASSIQUE steps onto any stage.
ENSEMBLE CLASSIQUE is equipped by the menswear label ROY ROBSON and plays exclusively on mouthpieces from J. Klier.

About the Programme
Absolute brass may not sound nearly as good as Brassissimo – quite apart from a wordplay lost in translation. This time, the popular German brass ensemble Ensemble Classique will span Europe and America, presenting the most classical music of the two continents. The noble, flexible and energetic sound of masterfully played brass instruments effortlessly combines arias from The Magic Flute, including the virtuosic Queen of the Night, with melodies from Romantic-era ballets and classics by Duke Ellington and Leonard Bernstein.
The performance may lead listeners to realize that Echoes of Harlem may not be so far removed from Albinoni’s Concerto in C Major as one might initially think. Hector Berlioz once praised the high standard of German wind players, and Ensemble Classique confidently continues this tradition. Anyone seeking the enthusiasm of Balkan brass bands combined with classical mastery and technique will not be disappointed at this No Tie concert, whether they wear one or not.

The seven-story functionalist building was designed following the model of the German Werkbund as an administrative and exhibition centre for the Union of Czechoslovak Industry. This organisation played a key role in promoting Czechoslovak design and craftsmanship both at home and abroad.
The Union commissioned architect Oldřich Starý, a leading theorist of functionalism, chairman of the Architects’ Club, and editor-in-chief of the professional journal Stavba, to design the building. The project was created in 1934, and construction was completed in 1938.
The large basement hall, now home to Divadlo X10, was originally approved as a cinema with 718 seats but was instead used as an exhibition space for events showcasing applied arts and industrial design organised by the Union of Czechoslovak Works. Many prominent figures contributed to the programme and exhibitions, including Josef Gočár, Rudolf Stockar, and visual artists such as František Kysela and Vratislav Hugo Brunner.
